What is dry conditioning and the benefits of doing so?

Dry conditioning is a process used to moisturizing your locks prior to shampoo or co-washing. In our opinion it is a great way to add moisture to your hair extensions prior to shampoo or co-wash. The process helps the hair to absorb moisture from the conditioner without the interference (dilution) of water.

Does dry conditioning your locks can help with occasional tangles?

Speaking from experience dry-conditioning assist in bringing moisture back to hair, which reduces tangles / breakage. It preps the hair, by supply the maximum amount of moisture prior to shampooing or co-washing.

What are your recommended steps for dry-conditioning hair extensions?

There are two ways we recommend dry conditioning hair extensions. The way you choose should depend of the condition of your hair extensions. We recommend dry condition with or without a water bottle.

First option (for intense moisture)
  • Apply moisturizing conditioner to dry hair
  • Work the conditioner from as close to the weft as possible and apply downward
  • Use a wide teeth comb to work through the hair, starting from the ends and working your way up.
  • For afro kinky, kinky curly and curly hair extensions we recommend finger detangle
  • Rinse hair thoroughly
  • Then shampoo or co-wash as usual
Second option (with spray bottle)
  • Spritz hair with water bottle
  • Work the conditioner from as close to the weft as possible and apply downward
  • Use a wide teeth comb to work through the hair, starting from the ends and working your way up.
  • For afro kinky, kinky curly and curly hair extensions we recommend finger detangle
  • Rinse hair thoroughly
  • Then shampoo or co-wash as usual
While we understand this technique may not be suitable for everyone, it something we’ve tried and feel is share-worthy.
